Mongoose!
Just a few pictures of our friend the mongoose. He wasn't shy at all this afternoon.
And an after shot of the trevally.
And my hand's nifty art work... had it hennaed at the school fair.

Getting a little bit fishy
Well tonight we're having a little trevally (here they call it sega fish... pronounced 'seng-a'). I bought him at the market today along with a very heavy yellow fin tuna. We're having a little sashimi and we put the rest in the freeze... little parcels of steaks for the week. It cost A$18 for the big tuna and a$13 for the trevally. So, fish is very cheap here in Fiji. The market was very busy this morning because it was a clear morning and everybody had a good sleep and got up early. We all had a good sleep because it's really cool. It's probably still 25C or so... but he humidity has changed greatly ... so much that we can comfortably wear light pants and t-shirt. Mongoose had the stomachs, tails and livers and pancreas.. he might've even eaten the gills... He didn't come out for a photo... but we saw him later and he has doubled in size!!! He really over ate.

Odds and Ends
Here’s just a few photos of things I’ve been enjoying lately. Orange choc-chip ice-cream, demolishing Eddie at chess, starting my basil garden, my new bag from Bellona (made by Eddie’s cousin) and my birthday presents: a PNG tappa from Nyna and a finely woven mat from Eddie (extreme close-up shot). I also had a lovely time in Sydney for a workshop. I stayed in Milson's Point (first station after the bridge heading north). On the train I took a snap of massive Sapphire Princess which made a dwarf of her surroundings... she was in Suva a week later.
Our Backyard
We have a few mongeese in our backyard. I will try and take a photo of him next time he pops in for a visit. I probably wont have to wait long too see him again...
KH: Have you been feeding the mongoose?
ES: No
KH: It came up close to me today and wasn’t even scared.
ES: Oh.
KH: You haven’t been feeding it?
ES: No, I just gave it something to eat
KH: (rising eyebrows) How is that not feeding it?
ES: Well… that’s different to just throwing pieces of food at it. I was holding the food.
KH: Did it eat out of your hand?
ES: No, not yet. He’s going to make a nice little pet…I’n’t?
ES: No

The table is coming along nicely. The pace has picked up a little since I employed the services of Eddie K Sanga. If the truth be told, he has a much better eye for detail than myself… but he has woodworking in his blood… whereas I probably have a bit more steel and welding running through my veins.
Precision measurements had to be made, followed by an even greater challenge…cutting these measurements accurately. No small feat when you’re not a master of your tools.
Meliti Sauraura has been Master advisor and has helped me with all the steps along the way. He is the Design and Technology teacher at the school. He’s also a competitive paddler.
The table is nearing completion. The frame requires glue and screw and sand and varnish (x2)… stay tuned to see the final product.
